What’s in a Halloween episode?

We’re well into the 13 Nights of Halloween and people everywhere are hoping to stumble upon their old favorites. As you turn the lights down low and flip on the TV, you may notice that most Halloween-inspired episodes circle around similar traits that are sure to have you shaking in your boots.

Recommended Halloween Reading: ‘House of Leaves’

With the leaves changing color and the weather getting colder, what better to do than to hole up in a dimly lit room and read a horrifying novel? Halloween is only a few days away and reading Mark Z. Danielewski’s “House of Leaves” is a perfect way to embrace the season.

Putting hip-hop back into the heart

Around the country, thousands of hip-hop events are held where pursuing MCs, or masters of ceremonies, meet to flaunt their impromptu lyrics, poetry, and spoken word via the microphone and stage. For Ohio University, a college campus in the middle of nowhere, hip-hop seems like a forgotten art. Luckily, thanks to MCs like Liza Hill, a member of the Disfunc Family, and other Hip-Hop Congress members, hip-hop is present even in the hills of Appalachia.

‘Brütal Legend’ rocks to new heights

This past Rocktober 13th, the twisted minds of Tim Schafer and his cohorts at Double Fine Productions unleashed “Brütal Legend” upon the world thus fulfilling every metal head’s wet dream.

Vilk’s birthday bash a show to remember

On Friday, October 9th, at The Union Bar and Grill, many bands came together to celebrate Aaron Vilk’s 21st birthday. Vilk, an Ohio University student and the ACRN promotions director, booked this event to give everyone some great memories on his birthday night. This show, comprised of a wide range of bands, offered something to almost everyone. From brutal grind, to hard party hits, to rap, this dynamic and diverse show delivered both good and not-so-good tunes.

Dedicated fans satisfied after ‘Office’ nuptials

Ask any rabid Dunder Mifflin-ite and they will assure you that the ceremony had been a long time coming. The oh-my-God-just-ask-her-out romance of the workplace mockumentary’s meek, cardigan-loving receptionist Pam (Jenna Fischer) and floppy-haired, one-liner-loving salesman Jim (John Krasinski) had been simmering on the back-burner since those fateful last few seconds of season two’s “Casino Night.”

‘Vampire Diaries’ offers plenty of bite to the CW

Despite being the latest in a long line of recent, vampire-based dramas, the CW’s “Vampire Diaries” is charming, surprisingly scary, and a prime piece of guilty-pleasure meat.
“Vampire Diaries” focuses on high school student Elena Gilbert (played by Nina Dobrev, the former baby-mama Mia on “Degrassi: The Next Generation”).

Big Bang Theory entertains the inner geek

The September 21 season premiere of “Big Bang Theory was like the return of an old friend for the avid fan. For the uninitiated, however, the episode might as well have been in Klingon.

Hilarity ensues at ‘I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell’ movie premiere

Yes, the saying “the movie is never as good as the book” usually holds true, but that’s not the case with the film “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” based on the book by Tucker Max.

‘House’ injects a new season into the airwaves

Everyone’s favorite sarcastic and arrogant M.D. exploded back onto the airwaves Monday with a two-hour premiere. “House” began its sixth season with a bang, but it may not be big enough to keep the series fresh after six years.

Ain’t Nothing but a Rock’n'Roll Blog: Lobsterfest 2009

I’ve been waiting for this day for quite some time now: my first-ever Lobsterfest. I put on a nice layer of sunscreen, grabbed a blanket and a pillow, and brought my laptop like the geek I am. I am ready for the day. I hope you’re ready for the rundown in the form of a live blog.

Ready to rock this Saturday at Lobsterfest

Lollapalooza is in Chicago, Illinois. Bonnaroo is in Manchester, Tennessee. Coachella is in Indio, California. These festivals may be fun, but they come complete with a lengthy drive and steep prices. A free alternative is right here; Ohio Univesity students, prepare yourself for Lobsterfest 2009.

‘Drag Me to Hell’ more comedy than horror

One does not walk into “Drag Me to Hell” expecting a quality film experience, but the filmmakers should not have assumed this meant they could take a good plot and kill it with ridiculous stunts, bad acting and childish horror mechanisms. The experience of seeing “Drag Me to Hell” could easily be copied by turning all the lights off in one’s house at three in the morning, turning on the Hallmark channel, and at every commercial break, muting the television and looking up screamers on YouTube.

Confessions of a Television Whore: Summer shows worth watching

The regular television season is through, but that doesn’t mean there’s no TV on at all. Here are my picks of what to watch during the coming summer months.

The Pixel Fix: To sequel or not to sequel

As E3 rolls around this year, I’ve noticed that a lot of the games that are set to be shown are sequels. This got me thinking: Are all sequels really that good?
